"The Power of One"

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. with chapters in communities throughout in the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, and Japan continues to provide service to humanity in a variety of ways. However, since 1950, one way Sigma men have continued to work on the front line is with its efforts in mentoring young males.

Through the Sigma Beta Club, Sigma provides service to our communities via this organization working with young males starting at 7 years of age and on through the high school years. With many young men at-risk, we strive to provide them positive images of Black men. These young men will become what they see and will learn to rationalize the world around them by adapting to their environment. Our mission is to provide a positive environment for them in their youth, so that they will become and remain a positive force throughout their adult life.

Additionally, Phi Beta Sigma continues to be a leader on college campuses in providing community service working with local service organizations. Nationally, we are proud of all of our corporate community service partners such as the American Cancer Society, the March of Dimes, Boys Scouts of America and the Internal Revenue Service. Through these strategic partnerships, Sigma men are working harder than ever to address the growing needs and issues of our communities' worldwide.

Thanks for visiting and come back often to see what Sigma is doing with its community service programs. We wish you much success in your endeavors.

Brotherly,

Paul L. Griffin, Jr.

The Sigma Beta Club is an essential part of the total organizational sturcture of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.  It offers Sigma Men a unique oppurnity to develope wholesome value, leadership skills, social and cultural awareness with youth at a most critical state in thier personal development.

The purpose for an organization such as the Sigma Beta Club are countless in numbers.  The Club, being an organization for young male students gives them an opportunity to meet with each other on a regular basis outside the school atmosphere to discuss their interest and problems.  The Sigma Beta Club also gives its members a chance to meet with college and porfessional men; therefore exposing the membership to to various viewpoints of educational achievements.

The primary programs for the Club are educational; cultural; social; and athletic.  They are designed to give members a chance to be innovative, thereby instilling self confidence and a feeling of accomplishment.  Service projects such as community clean-ups, assistance to the elderly, and the March of Dimes, will assist Club members in getting invovled in their communities.

Over the past few years the Sigma Beta Club program has evolved into Phi Beta Sigma's primary program for the developing leadership skills for young males 8-18 throughout the United States and abroad.

Question/comment: Hello, I am writing in regards to an opportunity I
have for some of your members. I am from a program called M.A.C "Men
About Change." It is a program out of Nimitz Ninth Grade School for young
men who would like to make a change in their lives. We provide an
opportunity for these young men to experience all types of things out of
their ordinary life. We are trying to build dreams where they have been
lost.

One of our projects with the boys is a mentoring program. We would like
to pair them up with successful men from the community who can guide
them, both professionally and socially. Many of these boys don't have
fathers or they have fathers whom are less than adequate. The mentors
would do things like donate professional clothing, used business items, go
on trips with them to places like the golf course, athletic events,
etc.  If there are any men in your group who would be interested in
mentoring one of our boys, please have them email Julmar Howard at
jlhoward@aldine.k12.tx.us.  If you would like more information I would
be happy to provide it. Thank you and hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

J. Howard
